Ok....I have had 2 MkIII's and almost bought a mk4 last week....
One thing i do not understand and am still boggled about is the mk4's pricing system.
Muscle cars retain their value based on the fact that the engine is so beefy and they are *hot rods* used for project cars...
were talking at least 20 years old to qualify.
Roadrunners, Malibu's, chevelle, Trans Am, El Camino's, chargers, Cougars.....
And i understood from several sources that before 1999, when Fast and the furious came out that the import tuner industry was very limited. The Supras, rx-7's and such were lower priced as well... then the movie came out and every little high school rich kid begged daddy and mommy to get them a Supra or some sort of import tuner to be on the new *racing scene*.
So back to the question....
WHY!!!! is a 9-13 year old car Whos nature is to go fast (most now with OVER 100k miles and i know the 2jz motors are VERY hardy and can withstand MUCH abuse, but its still a motor...) go for OVER 10,ooo dollars?! i would pay 12k for a downpayment on a house! Not to mention the fact that im gettin pissed at people LOL...I tell them i have a supra that they gawk and coo over that then they ask to see it and tell me its a probe or something. *on that note i almost beat the sh*t outa someone for tell me he knew for certain that i had a probe, NOT a supra...he even said i'll show you, and brought me up fast and the furious form the shelf, i worked at hollywood video*
I just do not know as to why the asking price on a 9-13 year old vehicle would surpass 10,ooo dollars over 100,ooo miles...
If anyone could enlighten me on this i would MUCH appreciate it

Supra... *drool*
88T *dead*

The Supra has always been expensive and name me one other vehicle that can handle 900 hp, daily driven on stock internals?

As economics work here, its about supply and demand my friend. When supply is high and demand is high, the price is for what the car is actually worth.

When supply is low and demand is high, then hopfully you have that certain "supply" cause you can now ask whatever price you feel like asking.

1. toyotas hold resale very well
2. the movie
3. they were expensive to start with
4. only 11,000 made, probably only 9000 still on the road.
5. timeless styling
6. very few remain stock
7. they are proven to be powerful and reliable

all this adds up to is high demand low supply. lets face it, until about year 2000 it was the fastest car you could buy for under 40,000.

yep supply and demand but guess what life sucks they are expensive and the car we all want well some of us are going to be SOL just because we got that kind of luck and that BUT if you wait you will find the right one for the right price and when you do POUNCE ON THE BITCH and scoop them up just like that

The reason why supras are so sought after is not because of the movies, all they did was help push the supra name into the mainstream enviroment. By doing that, people started to relize what a great car they are and how easy they are to make fast with enough money. Then price value went up because everyone wanted one. If that was the case, when the first movie came out, why didn't people start buying eclipses left and right. Because they were not nearly as worth as much as the supra I for one don't appreciate the way some of the cars look in the movies, but I'm not going to hate the fact that it made the MKIV even more infamous than it had been. You should appreciate the fact that people have great respect for the supra name, wether it's a MKIV or not. I would pay good dollars for a MKI if I could find one in immaculate condition. And the people that come up and say that it's not a supra because it's not the one in the movies, obviously they're intelligence is not quite up to par. I can't tell you how many times I drive my non-turbo car to work and places and leave the single turbo car at home and everyone says, "hey you got a 2jz in there?" and I of course say yes and then they say so what size turbo you got and I say it's not turboed and they look all confused. I could go on and on about this but it's not going to change anything. Someone that has a clue about cars can look at it and tell that it's a supra and everyone else that tells you it's not is obviously trying to put up a front like they know what they're talking about. Just smile and nod brother. Smile That's what I do Smile

Simple, what other car can you pay 23-30k for (manual TT MKIV), put 3-6 grand in it for a total investment of 37k tops, and SMOKE tons of cars costing more than twice as much? Someone is going to say 'a fox body mustang and lots of engine work with leftover cash', well guess what, it has to be able to handel.

Flyn MKIV, got the same story...
I'm living in Japan, and I own a 95 NA. One day, I was doing some trip in the countryside, I mean really in the middle of nowhere, I park up and there is a young american guy comin' to me. He said smthg like "That's a Supra, love that car, I'm a street racer too (actually I'm not), I have a Civic back home, blablabla,...you've got a 2JZ under the hood?? Sure, I said, all MKIVs got one. Then the guy says: No, some of them are NA, don't get me wrong I really know them, the son of the cousin of my aunt had one...You've got a big single on that thing?? I replied "yeah, I've got a big single fan just in front of the engine but that car has no turbos, it's a NA 2JZ...The guy: "Then it's not a 2JZ, but that car is neat, it's an RHD, everyone wants that back in the States" ...OK,OK, didn't want to pop the hood to show him the tag, just left and ran away...

Well supra's were and never will be cheap, they are fast, well handling, and look awesome. But mainly its cause a lot of people who were into crap before they saw that stupid paul walker fest movie got into supras cuz its "the thing" now so the demand has tripled I'd say. Before than most people didn't know of supras unless their friends, family had one or they played Gran Turismo a lot.

How fast is your CRX? sound like it pushing well over 500whp. you know what, Honda is fun for the street, from the roll not from the stop. When youre making 450+. I like Honda dont get me wrong. But the supra is way beter.

man this thread is old.

well i think you guys shouldn't ban "fastcrx"
he has the funniest screename i have ever seen
man i crack a rip everytime i say it. he adds tons of humor.

the Fast and the furious (more like the slow and Ridicules) gets a lot of neagtive attention.
I thought it was a "entertaning" movie, and isnt that why we go see movies any way.
im glad they went into that direction, it could have been a docomentary.
i mean a jet-li movie is unrealistic and shouldnt be tookin serious why should a "action" movie about cars should be
I enjoyed Fast and the furious it was funny as hell and was entertaning exactly why I go see movies in the 1st place IMO

and the 4th supra has always been expensive a movie wont exactly make somebody want to spend 20k+ out of there pocket because a movie made it cool.
there is a tons of other reasons why the supra is (too)expensive
anyway how much did a supra cost when it 2st came out?
