well i had some extra time today so i decided im going to make my own fmic panel rather than spend 50-100 bucks on one. i also enjoy working with sheet metal and doing mild fabrication so this is going to be a little project of time. in the future i am going to make my own EGR plates and airbox for my intake. heres a few pics of mock up. this is as far as i got today because i had to get the materials too.

removed weather stripping.

mock up with cardboard. note the hole for the hood latch on the drivers side will look like the hole on the pass side, i just mess up on cutting the cardboard.

bought plenty of sheet alum

ready to transfer template.

more to come later...

edit: images rehosted..still working on fixing avatar.

I did the same thing. I made a fmic cooling plate and a radiator show plate. Having my dad work at a HUGE machine shop doesn't hurt. Because of my front bumper and the bolts that were drilled, I can't go with a premade fmic plate.

EGR plates aren't that hard. Having a "jet machine" (I think that's what it's called) doesn't hurt either.

Smile

btw - your host sucks, and your avatar is huge.

what is the radiator show plate you speak of? it would be easier with a scroll saw but i dont have one so i am just using a jig saw.

the egr plates will be super simple. remove egr gaskets, trace, cut/drill, done. i got a 12"x12" sheet of 1/4" 6061 for 5 bucks.

are talking about the machine that uses water and abrasive to cut? yea that would be nice to have.

A radiator show plate helps air flow better to reach the radiator. A fmic usually will take away all of air that the radiator normally get. This just helps any air that normally is loss to the top flow to the bottom to the radiator.

You see that shiny piece above the fmic plate? It's made of aluminum, so it was very easy to hand polish. It was very simple to make. Just measure it and cut. Since it's a rectangle, it's very simple. You also need to drill the 2 holes for the bolts. Just drill slotted holes so you have room for error.

i see. i dont have an fmic but i wanted to make the plate. the rad panel looks good because it has a more complete look to it. you just bolt it down with the rad brackets? i think i will make that next.

Yea, you just drill 2 holes on the end where the radiator "locky thing" is. Then you just put it underneath the "locky" thing and just lock it down with it. You will have to readjust the "locky thing" because you have to account for the thickness of the radiator plate for the radiator not to move about.

Thanks lol. Yea I was being precise. I posted this up on SF and they poked fun of me Frown

They were like "You fucking idiot, everyone know how to make that. You don't need a picture" and blah blah. There are a lot of good people on SF, and then there are assholes (mostly people who don't own Supras themselves and the damn admins).

Anyways, on the 2 holes it's best if you make them slotted horizontally. That way you have room for error if your bolts aren't exactly 27 3/8" apart like mine are. Just make it like 1/2-1" slotted holes.

you should consider taking your pattern to a waterjet cutting outfit. It should'nt cost too much maybe $50. The waterjet is computer controlled so all your cuts will be perfect, and will give your project a really profesional look.

My dad works in a machine shop. For the radiator plate, it was just a rectangle so it can be hand cut. As for the FMIC, since there is a curve, it's very hard to input into the waterjet. We just wasted some time hand cutting it and doing the trial and error fitment.
