Recently I just purchased a 93 viper rt/10 along with my father. We split the cost, but he does not intend on doing any upgrades as they are extremely expensive. I really would like to get a car that can be more of a project for me. I am seriously considering a late model Twin Turbo Supra, but would like a little more info. I have seen the BPU kits for sale at Supra Store for around $1500, which seems like a great deal. What kind of performance are any of you guys getting out of such a kit? 0-60, 0-100? If i do get anything I want it to be faster than the viper, what do I need to accomplish this? I am also looking at RX-7's , throw in any comments ya got about them too, I have limited knowledge about both the mazda and the supra, any help would be much appreciated thanks

Well it takes very little for a supra to be faster than a viper. With bpu mods you can boost your hp up to even with the viper. All you really need to do to totally destroy the viper is to swap in a single turbo, a few fuel mods, and the bpu mods.
Yes i will be getting another Supra. Til then I drive my Camry with pride. ex 94 black tt 6 spd, bpu++

You will need to run race gas all the time to beat him bad in a bpu supra, at $4 a gallon that is no fun. Sure you can beat him without, but 1st gen Vipers are the slowest and run 13.0's at our local track. BPU Supras average 13.0 to 11.4 no Nitrous. Big gap because it is hard to launch and not all BPU's are the same. Single will cost you 10-15 grand to include everything like clutch and tires and engine. A Single turbo Supra will rape the Viper like a monkey on a bannana. used Supras cost around 17-28K on average and add the 15K on for mods makes it a good 35-40K. Supra motor and tranny and drivetrain will hold 1000+RWHP stock. it is reccommended to build up with internals and get a Carbon fiber clutch if you plan to go over 700RWHP.
You might want to look at a used Zo6 with head and cam pakage, maybe a blower package-this will also rape the Viper. You can only go to 550RWHP on pump gas with the Z06 motor stock. build it and some have gotten it to 800RWHP on race gas.
RX7 is a time bomb. It is only a matter of miles and time before you replace the motor. 50000miles out of an RX7 is A LOT to expect of it. Good luck with it. It has to be tuned perfectly all the time to run right. if one thing is off, the whole thing will run like crap. Just something to think about, there are over 72 Vaccum lines in the Rotary Turbo motor. if one pops off or gets a crack, it won't run right...It's a Nightmare to keep it running perfectly without blowing it up.
Hope this helps ya
read the Modded Viper got scared thread in Kill section. We only raced him through one whole gear and we went from the Viper's immediate 2 car jump to right beside him in one gear before the pansy let off because we were blowing past him. if it had been an legit 40-150 race we would have put 12 carlength lead on the Viper on only LOW BOOST in the Supra(we were pusing 17psi- we can go to 32psi) Just get the right tires and learn to drive well that's all.
Any normal running BPU without race gas will beat a viper, auto or 6spd.
And to go single turbo doesn not cost 10-15k dollars. Where the hell did you get those numbers?
Get a nice t-78 kit for 3500. Or even a budget kit for 2500. New clutch if you a 6spd, and the other basic stuff like exhaust and downpipe. You can have ALOT left to spare with a $5k budget.
Now once you get to installing FMIC, fuel upgrades, head packages...etc..etc, then thats where it gets exspensive.
I'm just wondering..what do you think the highest amount of HP a twin turbo could have (cost not being an issue). The SupraStore website has a kit for 1,200 HP, yet I have never heard of a Supra with that much HP.
Also, I'm wondering why one of the posters above mentioned swapping the twin turbo for a single turbo, how would this help performance?

When you stop lying to your self and everyone else, it does not cost $3500 to put a T-78 on your car. You seem to forget about the piggyback or standalone computers to tune your new turbo system. You forgot about the $2000 fuel system to go with your new turbo kit. Then you will need a FMIC because the stock one won't hold. You forgot the stock clutch won't hold the new power so you will need a better clutch. You will need to upgrade your suspention to put the power down because the stock suspention is tuned and calibrated for 300RWHP not 600RWHP. you forgot the tires won't hold the power at all and need to upgrade to a larger and stickier tire. The stock brakes will need upgrading, you increase motor power you increase braking power to maintain a balance. You forgot it costs money to tune and install all this crap. We havent even touched if you build the motor. When it is all said and done, that is $10,000-$25,000 to complete if you doubt me ask any REAL supra owner how much it cost to do all that RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. You can cheap out and half-a$$ all your sh!@#$ but it will run like cheap half a$$ed sh!@# in the end. Just be honest, it tallies up quick... The highest HP supra I know is 1600RWHP.
The only kit I know of that you don't have to upgrade the fuel system is the SP57 kit. It runs on stock fuel and it's possible to run in the 10's. The cost of that kit is $5,300, but you will still need a FMIC and all that other good stuff.

Why pay $2k for a fuel system when you can put one together for yourself for way less than that? I know what you mean about doing it right the first time. You dont have to buy the top dollar stuff because someone tells you that you do, but you do get what you pay for.

Can you hit me up with a link?
It was burning out the tires on the dyno, and it still measured over 1200RWHP and it was calculated to be over 1600 crankshaft I believe. Also the Top speed measured on salt, is a high resistance surface that soaks up top speeds. On a concrete highway this car is rumored to go over 270MPH. A porsche GT2 which can go 190+mph on concrete or asphault could only hit ~170mph on the salt because of the high rolling resistance.
You dont have to upgrade the suspension when you go single thats crap, lots of people use the stock suspension with singles, great setup on the strip. If you shall auto-x then upgrade the suspension thats another 3K in upgrades.

If you want to see Supras in action against Vipers, be sure to pick up the new Texas 2K3 Supra Meet DVD from www.suprastore.com. This one is much better than the Vegas meet one that Extreme Motorsports did. It's about 2 hours long, and is well worth the 30 bucks or so. I showed it to a bunch of my friends who now realize they were severely misinformed about Supras. Don't forget to check out how the supercharged Viper does against the mighty MK4...
The fever is spreading...
