Window tint - California
A few years ago the California Vehicle Code was changed allowing one specific film to be applied to the front two doors of cars / trucks in California. The legal film is called LLumar UVShield. This film is a light (25%) tint that stops 99.9% of A and B UV from passing through it. It will also stop you from getting a tint ticket. The CHP and some local agencies are now writing the tint ticket as a $77.00 fine (no more fix it). With the legal UVShield you get a manufactures certificate that your car is legally tinted. www.ca.gov.dmv section 26780 last three paragraphs describes the legal film and the certificate required. If you want more information on legal tinting please check out this web site or call (949) 365-9092. We are in Mission Viejo, Calif. aterrifictint.com Thanks and safe driving, Jeff |

This is one of the lamest laws in the california vehicle code arsenal. I cannot fathom the reasoning behind making it illegal to tint the front two windows on a car. What business do cops (or anyone for that matter) have looking into my vehicle without a reason? This is the primary reason for this law, so cops can see what you're doing. If they pull me over they can inspect the vehicle from there, they have no right to invade my privacy in my car to see what im doing if I am not commiting a crime. 25% tint is too light, id rather get 5% and deal with the tickets, my windows are usually rolled down anyhow and cops dont like pulling people over in bad weather for BS fixit tickets which is generally the only time my windows are rolled up unless im parked. Its almost on par with the law that legislates motor swaps in california. Who cares what motor i throw in my car as long as it burns clean. I was forbayed by a vehicle inspector a few months back from swapping an SR20VE engine into my 98 sentra, because its a JDM spec motor. Who gives a flying @#$%@#?! The emissions coming out of the new motor after that swap are cleaner by a signifigant amount than the emissions in the motor im running now, wtf gives? California is the smoggiest state in the US by far, we have all these crackdowns on emissions laws, yet our states smog crisis gets worse and worse every year regardless of emissions laws. lift the goddamn laws, plant some trees, and try to leave them in the ground for more than a year so they can actually do their job and filter pollution out.

I recently bought a Supra in Texas that has tint on the rear windows and the side windows. The tint in back makes it very hard to see what is behind you (especiallyat night). I was driving back to California at night and was trying to see if cops were behind me and it was tough. So, I think part of it may be safety reasons, but I don't know for sure.
The other comment I would make is that with dark tint, if a cop pulls a car over, he doesn't know what is behind the tint. Could be people with guns ready to blast him. If he ran the license and there are warrants, then tinted windows could make it more dangerous for him. I'm not saying the laws aren't bad or good, but sometimes you need to look at it from another perspective. There are so many people complaining about the cops and getting pulled over, etc., but if you need a cop and they weren't there to help you, then you'd be just as pissed, or maybe more. |

I'm all for people carrying concealed weapons. Every state that has this law has lower crime rates. Why is a criminal going to try to rob you if they don't know if you have a gun on you and might shoot them? They would much rather prey on someone they know can't or won't fight back.
