who has been installing the shroud? im thinking its either a poor install or the wrong shroud. rubber components will wear away so it should be expected that a 18 year old car will need new hoses.

Thank you for responding to my fan & shroud issue! The only thing that is in common w/the fan exploding on me is that it happens right after somebody works on the car. for instance I had the dealership put in new plugs and wires and the fan exploded on the way home from picking the car up. (they paid for it) the 2nd time I had the hood up and was sitting in the car reving the engine and it exploded, thank God nobody was standing in front of the car cuz shrapnel went everywhere! and the most recent time was after somebody had put new plugs and wires and new coolent hose. Is it that the mechanics are leaning on the top of the fan or shroud? but why did it explode when all I was doing was reving the engine rather agressively? Please write again. Thank you! Robin

it really sounds like the mechanics are not installing the shroud/fan correctly. maybe they removed the fan and put the wrong one back on. maybe they are replacing the busted shroud with the incorrect one. you might want to ditch the stock fan and shroud and go with twin electric fans. your other option is to install a new fan/shroud yourself or by someone you know and trust. also check that your radiator is mounted correctly.

Yes i would go with the aftermarket daul fan setup i had a similar problem and switched to a duraflex aluminum fan but kept slicing my knuckles to ribbons so i moved for the dual setup on my 88 it keeps it cooler than the original fan as well
