Hey ... also posted this on the MKIII general forum, but figured it might get noticed here faster, so sorry for the repost!
--------- Hi all... I'm on the verge of buying my first Supra but would like some expert advice before I seal the deal. Here's what I'm looking at. It's an 87 Supra, non-turbo, about 138k on it, white, AT, base model as far as I can figure. In average condition for the mileage, so the interior's in pretty good shape, no tears or holes in seats, all electronics and AC work, etc. Exterior shows a few scuffs here and there and the original pinstriping is spotty. Tires are fairly new. No initial indication that any mechanical repairs are needed. It's for sale on the used car lot of a Honda dealership, whose asking price was $3,995. Or was, at least. When stopping by to check it out this afternoon, I was informed that the car was recently involved in an accident ON THE LOT! Apparently, they were loading the car up to take it to auction and a "well-intentioned" customer in an F-150 accidently swiped the Supra's open driver's side door and bent it forward. The door's now in pretty bad shape ... won't come close to closing and will probably need replacing ... and the area just in front of the door hinges is also bent in. I still like the car, though, and think the door thing may actually work in my favor as I'd like to keep the cost down to $2500 or less. Question is, would you pay $2500 for a car in this condition? More importantly, can anyone give me any rough idea of what it would cost me to replace the door? The dealer is supposed to get back to me tomorrow morning on the insurance adjuster's verdict, which apparently will determine if they can still sell the car and at what price. Thank you thank you thank you for anyone who can post a quick reply!!!! |

Do you want the NA supra? Or would you take a turbo for the same price?
I've seen many a supra go for less than 2500, turbos even, with about the same mileage. IMHO, I would not pay that kind of money. Shop around; you can probably find a supra for less that has no damage. The damage to that particular supra sounds pretty extensive. |
