I have a running 1985 Toyota Cressida that I want to take from an automatic to a 5-speed manual. However, Cressida parts are hard to find around here. My neighbor has a 5-speed manual 1984 (?) Supra that he uses as a parts car, and i want to take the engine and the transmission out of there and put it in my Cressida. I don't know if this will work, but I've heard that Cressida's and Supra's have similar engines. Will this work? Any imput would be very helpful, thanks.

They share quite a few parts, including engines, crossmembers, etc.
You will need to take your existing front oil sump, and oil pickup and dipstick and move it over to the 84 supra engine before you drop that Supra engine into the Cressida (The Supra uses a mid sump engine, and will not clear the Cressida's crossmember if you don't swap it). You should be able to use the bellhousing and 5 speed tranny from the Supra, along with the clutch, and pedals and migrate them over to the Cressida (I know a few people that have done 5 speed conversions on their MX83, MX73, and MX63. You might wanna sign up for 2 Cressida websites in order to get more information directly related to your frame and goal. http://www.toyotacressida.net http://www.jzx81.net I'm actually getting ready to start my 2nd 1JZ swap into an MX83 Cressida (this time a 1992 model that is mint), so I totally understand your fascination with this car. It's a RWD sedan with mad potential for cheap. ========================= 92 Cressida TT (1JZ-GTE) 93 Camry V6 94 Supra TT |
