hey sup congrats on the new buy! and welcome

many people choose single turbo setups on their supras rather than twin...mainly because they believe single turbo setups will start producing boost sooner(lees "lag")....due to the fact of the turbo relying on all six cylinders instead of sharing exhaust pressure between 2 turbines(3-3)...and also because having a single turbo setup is generally cheaper

Some people believe twin turbo setups deliver more power...thou that isnt exactly right...that is mostly the case...

OK now I would go with a single turbo setup all the way!!just because well I prefer single turbo setups but thats just my opinion... Its your car and your wallet!!! you decide...

well good luck!
peace!

single turbo- cheaper, more reliable, better spool (depending on turbo), same/more power (depends on turbo), common

twin- expensive, more complex, more parts= more stuff to break, laggy, rare.

the only time a twin is really beneficial is on a V engine becuase routing the exhaust to reach one turbo can be complex and grealy increase lag so you go with a twin set up so that the turbos can bolt directly onto each exhaust mani.

They are lots of twin turbo'd stangs out there they are 2 in my area. Single turbo is much less hassle much cheeper and make just as much power if not more in most cases you dont see to many upgraded twins out there now a days everyone has gone big single. This whole thing depends on how much your willing to drop.

just to clairfy
v engine + 1 turbo = complex
v engine + 2 turbo = simpler (in terms of mounting and pluming)

both are expensive Smile

Yeah well not that we strayed off topic I would say go single: same power, less money and most popular. what is the Hp range you want to hit it cant be above 500 because the auto tranny wont hold it with out beefing it up. so if I were you I would keep it at BPU with cam gears and a FMIC and that should hold you till you get more money for you tranny.

Im looking for around 600hp+. Also i can spend just around $6,000. Also are Single Turbo's a garage project or should it be done by a professional?

We all know installing a turbo setup nowadays is extremely easy and most kits are made just so everything is direct bolt on installation...
but still there are not many direct bolt on kits for stangs(turbos) most requiere a lot of custom modification, custom made manifolds, and a lot of trial and error(fitment, etc)and are usually expensive...

single turbo setups on v-engines requiere a crossover pipe right?? is this obligated? or can u just run the turbo on 4 cylinders insted of the 8 (on a v-8, duh!)
In other words...can I just install a turbo manifold on one side of the engine and the other side with a normal header????or do i need to install a crossover??

lol I know i might be wrong! please correct me if im wrong....Knowledge is Power! Smile

peace later!

oh and for ur question....
Most kits are almost direct bolt on installation...so if u decide in buying a kit instead of buying parts separtely u should be allright by doing urself if u have moderate knowledge about ur car....but I reccomend that a profesinal tunes your car...its worth it

later

this is why twin turbo is actually an advantage on a v engine. you will need to fabicate a crossover to join the manifolds (which are at opposite ends of the engine bay) with a single turbo. running a single turbo on 4 cyls on a v8 engine is just plain wrong. first you would have the crappy spool of a 4cyl (think honda civic) and non of the power of a v8 (again think honda civic). not to mention the fact that one bank would be restriced while the other flows freely, this would grealy upset the balance of the engine and make it worthless.

all depends on what you want out of the car. for a street car the dbb bl67 looks very promising but if you want to make serious power the 71 or bigger are where its at.

I think that if you want 600+ hp it might cost a bit more than $6000 your gonna need a built tranny along with supporting mods.

This is my opinion..

Your car can look a thousand times better than mine, but when I pass you then who has the last laugh Cool

But thats my opinion because even stock supra look beautiful!

Now the good stuff, when your talking about horsepower there is no equation that says

HP= (some factor) X $$$

we do know that more HP = more $$$ but if you want to make big numbers look around at what is available for you. I have seen guys with greddy T-78's, decient fuel system, etc... make big numbers. Figure a T-78 ~ 3500, fuel system ~ 2000, electronics and etc ~ 700 - 2500. So figure an guesstimation of about 7500 or so no counting labor.

I would (from bone stock) invest in a bcc, ebc, turbo kit, downpipe, and bov, even using your stock intercooler running about 18 lbs you could see some good numbers. Then just invest over time in other things.

But like I said thats my opinion...
