This product looks pretty cool. It just released this month from phr. It's called the map ecu.

Basicially this unit replaces the gcc/vpc mod, all in one unit.

It doesn't beat a stand along like the AEM EMS, but it reasonably priced a 895, cheaper than 1500, a good alternative for single turbo guys who cannot afford a stand alone.

It is an Australian product we reviewed here at SS the beginning of the year. Looks to be a nice alternative to the VPC. We have the same product available for $795.

I have a question about map vs. maf, is map better than maf? Everybody want to get a map based sensor, why didn't the usdm 2jz come with one?

Would it be possible to use a jdm map sensor to convert the maf to an map?

A map based system (manifold absolute pressure, or as toyota calls it PIM = Pressure Intake Manifold) calculates the amount of air coming in to the engine by the pressure in the manifold, the volumetric efficiency and the engine RPM. A MAF system, messures the airflow directly.
The USDM Supra did use the MAF as generally speaking a MAF system can better control emissions than a MAP system.
The MAP system however, doesn't have the restrictive air intake (air flow meter) and on top of that a BOV venting to air doesn't result in the engine stalling. So a MAP system is easier to use for (highly) modified cars.
You cannot use a JDM MAP sensor on the USDM car, you should have to switch over the complete ECU also, but that's too much I would say.
