With a little more than two months left before the eighth annual Supras Invade Las Vegas event we have already passed 100 RSVPs… and I haven’t even really been doing any promoting.
This year’s event adds three unofficial activities. LVMS has a regularly scheduled Test-and-Tune night on the dragstrip for Friday night. This will be a great opportunity to get the Supras dialed in for the elevation and climate changes in Las Vegas, saving valuable time during Saturday’s official racing. LVMS also has a drift session on Friday night… come see the latest racing sensation that is sweeping the nation. On Sunday you can get another racing fix… the local SCCA is having an AutoX and the Supras have been invited to come join in the fun. The regular activities; Show-and-Shine presented by Matsu-Motorsports, Dyno Challenge, and Drag Showdown fill the weekend as Supra owners and enthusiasts come together from around the globe to celebrate the Toyota Supra. We are also working on a late night party to close out the weekend. Remember that our “official hotel†group rates at the Luxor expire on September 8. There are plenty of choices for hotels in Las Vegas… but why not stay where the action is? When we arrive each year, Luxor security changes the angles on their parking lot cameras to focus on our cars while also stepping up security patrols to the back of the garage where we park. Are you going to get that kind of service at <insert another hotel name here>? The schedule has been changed around a bit for this year’s event. You can find full details on the official SILV website. We are opening up eight (8) reserved spots for the biggest of the big Supras to run on the dyno. These spots will have reserved times and will not have to arrive early to get on the list. We feel that this will get more of the high hp cars onto the rollers while still keeping the day open to anyone that wants to participate. Details about this new program will be posted soon on the website. Sponsors are starting to come on board. I’ve got several verbal agreements already and Matsu-Motorsports has already confirmed as this year’s Show-and-Shine sponsor. Don’t miss out on the fun. Supras by day… all night parties by night. A lot has happened since the last announcement.
Remember that the 2004 SILV special group rates at the Luxor expire in just over two weeks on September 8. Our prices represent an average savings of more than $65 per night over the regular published rates Saturday night’s savings alone is more than $90 after tax. There are plenty of places to stay in Las Vegas… but how many of those are expecting 150+ Supras in their parking garage and make security changes to keep a close eye on our cars? And do you really want to have to drive somewhere else at the end of the day after partying with all of the Supra owners and enthusiasts? We are extremely pleased to have Garth and the crew over at Extreme Motorsports back on board covering this year’s event for a highlight video. Extreme Motorsports produced the very successful 2002 Supras Invade Las Vegas video and they are excited to be shooting this year’s event. In an attempt to avoid the flack that has surrounded previous video projects and pre-orders (“Where’s my video?†“You guaranteed X weeks and the video would be shipping out!†etc)… this year we will buck that trend and pre-orders will not be taken. We will announce when the video is completed and you order your video directly at that time. Garth has given a window of 6 8 weeks after this year’s event that the video will be available and ready to ship out. What a great holiday present! The Dyno Challenge presented by Champion Toyota Gulf Freeway has been split into two sessions, the first major change to this activity since the first SILV event in 1997. The morning session will be the regular dyno runs with everyone participating on a first-come first-served basis. The afternoon session will be the Dyno Invitational. Eight Supras are being invited to participate in this new session. Five of the slots have already been confirmed and there are three invitations still outstanding. A great field of Supras has been selected that you will enjoy seeing in person. The complete list and approximate times will be posted on the official SILV website as soon as the entire field has confirmed. A new class has been added to this year’s Drag Showdown. After a successful series in Texas earlier this year, the Six Speed Challenge has been added to this year’s SILV event. This class is already filling up and the list of entrants will be posted on the official SILV website as soon as this class is filled. A new destination has been selected for this year’s Scenic Drive. If you thought the scenery at Red Rock Canyon was beautiful… you don’t want to miss our drive this year. The Scenic Drive will start for lunch at In-n-Out burger on Industrial and Tropicana before making the journey out near Lake Mead and up to the Valley of Fire. Along the way we will be passing the world famous “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Nevada†sign at the south end of the strip. With highway speed limits of 75mph… the return to Las Vegas on I-15 will be a spirited romp through the desert. You will want to make sure you have a full tank of gas before we meet at In-n-Out as this drive is more than 100 miles. Don’t forget about all of the unofficial activities going on this year. Friday night there is a regular Test-and-Tune drag session as well as a Drifting Series up at LVMS. On Sunday is a regular SCCA AutoX and the Supras have been invited to come out and participate. Also on Sunday will be a Champagne Brunch for everyone that hasn’t left town yet. For more information about the Highlight Video, Dyno Challenge presented by Champion Toyota Gulf Freeway, Drag Showdown, Show-and-Shine presented by MatsuMotorsports, Scenic Drive, or anything else relating to this year’s Supras Invade Las Vegas event… browse on over to the official SILV website at http://Vegas.Supras.Org Where are you going to be when all of your friends are partying in VEGAS!
