just bought an 86 supra. couple questions. i was under the impression that supra split from celica, if so why does the emblem on my supra say celica supra? and for the big question. im planning on dropping a 2jz-gte motor in it right out of the bat. will it mount up to the stock 5 speed transmission and will i need a swap kit for the motor mounts?

The celica supra was supposed to be a celica but with i dont know they both just split into diff cars. Try reading this at Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_supra really helpful. The 2jz will not just drop in. You need to get some custom motor mounts plus change the wiring harness which is a b**ch to do. You need to get some more parts i cant remmember to name but you are really better of to just drop in the 1jzgte. You will need a front clip thats 1jz. Its alot easier. Just buy the front clip from http://www.jarcoinc.com if u want quality but for just a clip thats about 500-800 dollars cheaper try http://www.flashoptions.com/ for shipping just add 450(for full front clip except panels) for flashoptions or 750 with body panels.

Good luck on your choice.

One has to appreciate the MKIII for what it is, not hate it for what it's not.

I have to disagree on the 1JZ being an easier option. Parts are gonna be wayyy harder to find that you would think. You will surely find parts in the FS forums of the US, but when it comes to certain integral performance/stock parts you will be heading across the seas. Go 1J if you want, but why not save up all that "from Japan" shipping $$$, and read up on putting in a 2JZ powerhouse.

do you know of any sites that have a walkthrough of some sort on the installation of a 2jz setup? something with a list of parts and things i will have to do to make it work?
