MAY I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE: could a real sports car please stand up.
I am really starting to hate modern cars.
Too many sports cars are coming with automatic transmissions.
this is bad IMO it takes away from the purity of a sports car, there is no thrill in just stepping on the gas well sophisacated computers interrupt what you want. There is no better joy then cruising around pressing the clutch, shifting gears and taking off like a rocket and switching to the next gear. That’s what makes a sports car a sports car. there is nothing sporty about automatics trannys.

my friend came by with a 2005 Porsche
this thing was loaded with too many useless features. do Porsche owners really think its "cool" driving a 60k whip with cup holders an a automatic transmissions.
Im not against totally against auto tranny an cup holders they have there place (like in grandmas minivan) but I don’t think people should have to ride in a 60k+ car with sports car with skilless auto trannys and cup holders

Do you also make 3 left turns to go right because you need something to do?

Fucking with a clutch in rush hour traffic to and from work for a decade or so will change your mind. Or maybe yours cant be changed and it is already made up. Smile

God, I thought SupraForums had some ignorant people but you should be literally banned for creating such an idiotic post. I hope you realize that the fastest drag cars run automatic including Marko D.'s 8 second Supra. High-end automatic sports cars are really fun and convenient to drive and I wouldn’t go back to stick especially with the traffic in southern California.

I guess you have never picked up a soda while on the road; even if you have, I dont wanna know where you put it since cup holders are a sin in sports cars. Sounds like a ricer theory, removing a piece of plastic that weighs under a dime to save weight?

Clutches do suck at rush hour or if you live in a heavy traffic area. With a stock clutch I can mind it, but with a 6 puck it's annoying as shit.

It all comes down to marketing and making money. Auto's attract more people who wouldn't normally be looking at that car.

Know whats funny is you will get more of a feel of the car with a TH400 auto trans then you would with the 6spd.

If I drove in rush hour traffic everyday I'd probably want an automatic, but since I don't I'll stick with my manuals. For a car that you're driving for fun I don't see how you could want something other than a manual. Well, maybe paddle shifters...

just thought i'd through my thoughts in on this.

I LOVE to row my own gears, however, city driving sux in stick ... specially in congestion. also, for those of us with boosted vehicles, auto is actually more efficient because you don't loose boost from the turbo when your BOV fires one off, and you don't loose exhaust gasses to the regulator on the exhaust side when you let off the gas to shift. you also don't have to wait for the turbo to re-spool after getting back into the pedal.

and as mentioned before, the fastest drag vehicles run auto.

and a grand majority of drag racers use auto purely for consistant times.

and of course.. you need to have one hand for the Micky D's cup. Smile

I used to hate auto's too, but then i found a great deal an a supra turbo automatic, and my mind changed. Automatics have earned their place in automotive performance, Constant boost is also a huge plus. Plus, i mean you could always convert your auto to a manual, or paddle shifters if you hate it that bad. Dont hate on Auto's, Just as I wouldnt hate on manuals. They each deserve respect.

You know, i used to think that a 5/6-speed was the only way to go too, but some of these other guys have the same opinions as me too. First, ya, driving a stick in any traffic sux, and secondly, all the high hp guys do run autos. My first supra was a stick and now i have a built auto with a shift kit and stall speed and i can't believe i used to think my 5-speed was the only way to go. So unless you have driven a nice auto, i can't imagine that you would know if you didn't like it. If you have, and you don't like it, cool. And i'm just saying that because i was the same way, and now that i have a nice auto, i'll never drive a stick again. As for cup holders, ya, who gives a daym.

My car's an auto, I can drive a stick just fine but since I hate having to deal with traffic to and from school(back in my previous years) I prefered an auto. Now that being in the Marines and having to drive on and off base everyday with a hella lotta traffic, having auto makes me feel bad for the Rustang next to me shifting gears...Actually I don't feel bad for him at all... hahaha so mean....

Both autos and Manuals have their place, manuals are fun, autos are nice and hold power. ITS ALL GOOD heck lets all hold up a bank and get enough money to have one of each! because that sounds like a good idea.
As far as ricers with their saving weight by taking out light stuff... they have to they only pushing 56 horsepower in their "super civics".

Who needs a big block when you can get more horsepower for less with a Turbo |6?

For me...the manual tranny has more to do with the "fun factor" while driving the car. Sure you can still go really fast with an auto tranny, but it sure is nice to be able to cruise along in 4th gear, drop to second and burn the tires. Specially when you're next to a little ricer!

I like the instant power feel of a manual transmission. With an automatic you get hesitation as it changes gears when you floor it. For winding roads automatics just aren't much fun.

Actually, I don't get any hesitation between gears and i keep boost a lot better than a manuel. That's also because I have a rebuilt tranny, but I also don't have to down shift if I have to roast somebodys a#$ on the interstate either, I just floor it and go. For winding roads, ya, manuel is better for that.
