Since I picked up my 87 Supra three years ago, there has been a consistent problem with the stock radio/stereo. While the cassette system always works, the radio/amplified sound rarely works, but even before a rain storm is on the horizon, the radio will spontaneously start to work and will continue to work while it is raining. On dry days it does not work.
Does anyone/has anyone else encountered this problem?

I would check your connections at the antenna at the back of the car.

Does the radio not work at all or is there static and just extremely poor reception?

I recall a friend (ham radio operator) telling me a long time ago that cloud cover makes for better reception or radio signals. If there's a problem with the circuit it may be something which is weakening reception. You could always pull the unit, test the coils and resistors and replace all the capacitors.

You might try and see if you get reception when closer to the repeater towers.

I'm surprised you haven't replaced the unit yet.
