As shown in my picture I own an 88T mk3 that has been dead for quite some time now. Recently i bought a 2JZ twin turbo motor out of a totaled 95 supra. Now, I've been apart of this and many other supra communities for quite a while now. So I've seen this motor swap in action and have decided that it's the way to go. My Question is obviously what exactly goes into this swap besides a shit ton of money (in which case i'd be ahead of the game because i bought the motor for only $800 lol). By the way my car is an automatic.

Thanks,
Dave

Because you have an 88 you will need motor mounts because the early 89s and before are not compatible with the jz blocks. If you want to stay automatic you just pick up a JZ automatic transmission, and no your 7M trans won't work because of the bellhousing. You will need the ECU from the 2JZGTE and you will need to wire the whole thing. Its an intensive project. Thats the bulk of it but you will have to do other things to.

Will a 1jz auto tranny bolt on better than the 2jz? If the 2jz tranny is easily adaptable then i'll probably begin my search for one, although i'm sure both are fairly easy to come by since everyone and there mother swaps them for a 5-speed.
Also I heard you can splice the 2JZ wireing harness to the stock 7m harness and ECU at the cost of a little horsepower...is this true?

The 2jz and 1jz autos have the same bolt pattern on the bellhousing so they are interchangable.

I don't know about the wiring. At some point I will because I am gathering the parts for a 2JZ swap in my own car. I have an auto trans and a 2jz block with crank and a headgasket at the moment(all for free btw) but I will be taking my time with it and building the hell out of it(3.4 Titan stroker kit, built head, dry sump, ect) so don't expect to see it anytime soon.

To get that motor to bolt in, check out BIC's subframe adapters. www.bicperformance.com - They allow you to use '89+ OR 2jz motor mounts on pre '89 cars. Smile

Hey Shaeff, as always you come through with shining colors with all kinds of info to help us, I cant say that I will doing the swap anytime soon, but maybe in the future because I am considering the idea. So when I went to the website I was really impressed with the price, I only asked one question, do the old mounts have to be cut and the new ones welded in?

Anytime. Yeah, I am taking a few years to build it and spend the money gradually so it doesn't hurt as bad, but sparing no expense. I want to go for 800hp but building up gradually with a multistage boost controller and a good twin turbo aftermarket set up like the one from HKS. I would like to get into boost quickly but not blow the tires off at start off.

I'm sure you going to have to choose your tires carefully with 800hp headed strait for them, good luck! Is your car an MK3 as well? Can you say Pro-street supra?lol

Yeah, my current car is an A70. I am not thinking about building it just as a drag car but as an all around deal. I want it to handle, stop, and go. And I don't want the power all at one time, rather I would like to have about 500 at the tires on take off and about 800 by the time the car gets up to speed, above 120mph.

I have had an A80 before as well. I enjoyed the car but the parts were way to expensive and everytime I did anything on it I felt I was destroying one of God's wonderful creations. It was an NA car but I had built it to probably about 260bhp with XERD headers, full 3" exhaust to the headers, intake pipe. It didn't have any low end at all but it would move at over 70.

No, you simply unbolt your old mounts from the motor/subframe, and bolt on the BIC mounts. It's a direct fit, no cutting, no welding. Just bolt them on.

So then thats it for the 2JZ? Instead of the cross member you can just switch out the motor mounts and then you drop the 2J in and mate it of course to the proper Bell housing and tranny?

Assuming you have the proper oil pan to clear the crossmember, yes. Many people clearance the firewall for more room. The stock twins are very close. Wink

I heard somewhere that clearances for the trans, driveshaft, and bellhousing depend a lot on what trans you use. For instance a R154 with a 1JZ bellhousing will be a drop in(if it can be called that) as the parts needed for install are the standard stock parts. The A340 should be about the same but it may require a varying length driveshaft over the stock one. The V160 would be the real problem, the tunnel needs to be altered for the trans to fit correctly. The driveshaft would also be a custom unit. The W58 would be in about the same place as the A340 as far as modifications.

That would be the way to do it. That or another aftermarket tubular manifold to move the turbos away from the firewall.
