I'm not sure if the year matters, what I do know is that you must use a turbo ECU. Consequently, Turbos didnt come out till 87, how did you get an 86 turbo ECU?

to answer your question no a turbo ecu is a turbo ecu the only time u might run int problems is if you were installing a 90-92 turbo engine (they come with 232hp or so instead of 230hp)or if you were installing a 1jz.but like Supra88T_Knight there was no turbo in 86. and you can use all the same wiring.

89 SUPRA N/A

Is he using a JDM ECU? Because maybe thats why he is saying 86? Although I thought that an 86 was an 86 in that time frame?

USDM or JDM, its still the same. You will of course retain the wire harness. It should be a straight bolt in affair. If there are any problems it might be with the O2 sensor connecting to the ECU, because they run their cars differently in Japan. The ECU might encounter a little problem with that, but thats all I can think of. As long as you have all the intercooler fittings (plumbing that is) then you should be straight.

The JDM ECU has a few minor differences, but either the USDM or the JDM will work.

I still think that your problem lies in the wiring.

Oh, and if you decide to sell your ECU, I'm looking for a JDM ECU. (not because it's better, but because it fits my needs currently)

I'd be happy to pay you a bit over the going rate ($100) so that you can purchase the ECU that you need for your car.

You NEED to match the wiring harness and ECU to the year of the chassis! Let me know on that ECU. (or, I could even find you an '89+ ECU and trade you if you'd like)
