It's the weekend, and I'm sitting downtown; the usual thing. Now, I'll have you know that I don't just race anyone, I'm kinda picky about it.

For instance, we have this crapped out suzuki that just drives around all night hauling nuts and bottoming out his car on bumps in the road, with a sky-high aluminum spoiler. Not a chance in hell I'm gonna waste my time or jeopardise my car against someone as careless as this guy.

Anyway, Cody and I (he has an MR2 turbo) have been cruisin around a little bit when this slammed toyota pickup comes hauling nuts out of one of the side streets and gets on our butts. I pull in behind Cody and the PU gets in the other lane.

Red light.

The MR2 is revving around 3K waiting for the light when I see the PU turn his turn signal on... he's gonna ditch out.

Light turns green and Cody and I go straight and the PU goes left. We flip a Uy at the next block and try to find him.

We finish a lap around "the loop" with no luck. As soon as I pull in to the lot he pops out from the same side street. Everybody at the lot points over at him and yells at me to go get 'em.

I haul nuts out of the lot reaching far into 2nd gear, easily doubling the set speed limit. I catch him at the light and we line up.

I rev my engine a couple times to get his attention and he revs back. Good.

Gentlemen, we have a race on our hands.

The light turns green and we take off. He breaks traction off the line and I shift into 2nd and sit there, purring along. He catches up and we have a rolling start, if you will.

We cruise along at mid to high RPM until I hear him punch it. IT'S ON!

(Before I continue, you need to know that I don't have any oil pressure. Because of a blown rear main seal I don't get power until 3k RPM.)

I smash the gas right up to 6k and shift into 3rd with a nice chirp of the tires. Looking left, he's keeping right up with me. 6k, shift into 4th, no chirp (damn). I'm barely pulling away, but I'm winning. Half way through finishing 4th gear up he backs off. His bumper was directly to my left when he did this.

We meet back at the lot and pop our hoods. This guy has an MSD ignition, he's running around without a bed by the way (his lights are ziptied to the frame), and he has an air intake.

I'm running with a full exhaust system, K&N intake, aluminum radiator. I have a chip I just haven't installed it yet. Haven't had the need.
