yo, for all you younger guys out there, and guys that don't have enough money to upgrade and get the gte, and switch the tranny, the ones that settle for the j-spec ge. MAKE SURE IT IS A SUPRA 7M-GE. a while back i threw a rod through my oil pan leaving a 2 inch hole. so me being that i'm 17, i had to get a ge, and j-specs where the cheapest i found. i called the engine place, told them i wanted a 7m-ge from a supra. and thats what i thought i got, but my mechanic told me different. a a-spec 7m and a j-spec 7m are two different engines. nothing matches. we had to change everything. when we got most of it done, we decided to put the engine in. oil pan is different. thats when we realized that it came out of a late 80's early 90's cressida. the people that i bought it from figured 7m-ge fits all. what retards. the engine including the shipping costed 700, but with all the other things i needed, its costing me 1500. and we still need to put in the oil pump. just giving you all the heads up. hope this never happens to you guys.

no, you just didn't do your research, and the supplier fucked you. that's all.
jspec and a-spec engines are nearly identical. you just happened to get a jdm GE from a toyota cressida, NOT from a supra. cressida= front sump oiling system, supra= rear sump. therefore, the cressida motor will not bolt into a supra unless you switch up the oiling system, and oilpan. a jdm 7m from a supra will bolt right in, regardless of whether it's a turbo or N/A. (providing that you use your existing motormounts if the j-spec ones are different. they changed in '89 to round fluid filled mounts, but that's easy to get around by making sure the mounts are the same as your old ones, and if not, just switch them.) so, in short, get pictures of what you're buying before you buy it, and know what you're supposed to be getting, and what it's supposed to look like. -shaeff |

The oil feed line will either need to be replaced or manipulated to fit as well

^ What oil feed line? For the turbo, or the oil cooler?
Regardless, nothing needs to be manipulated. I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about. |

I am talking about the hard line that attaches to the oil pump, and then runs into the block. I am now having problems with my j-spec ge, because I have oil pressure when I start the car, but then the pressure bleeds off slowly to 0 psi. I had to buy the oil pan and sump/pump to allow the engine to bolt up. The car runs fine, but I am leaning toward an issue of the oil pressure sending unit. Any suggestions?

Well, considering you said you're having trouble with the GE, then you ran into the same problem as the original poster.
You got screwed by your supplier. If you got a 7MGE or 7MGTE that was from a SUPRA, you wouldn't have to change anything. It would be bolt in. So, your motor is from a Cressida. |

I knew when I bought the engine that it had more of a chance of being a cressida motor then a supra motor. That did not concern me to much though. The cost convert the motor was less then some of the supra addition ge motors I found.
Do you have any suggestions about my oil pressure problem shaeff? I think that it maybe my sending unit. |

If you have the JDM oilpressure sending unit on there, it won't work with the USDM gauge, and has been known to actually fry the USDM gauges.
