I have a 7M-GTE Supra motor that's just been hanging out in my garage forever and I need to do something with it. My cousin has a 1990 240sx with no motor. We were thinking of putting my motor in there to make a super fast race car. This is a very intimidating idea because neither of us have done this kind of custom work before.

The things I'm thinking about are:

1. Transmission hook up? Should I use the R-154 (5-speed manual Supra tranny) and get a custom driveshaft to hookup to the rear end? I'm worried that tranny might not fit in the smaller area of his car. If we figured out some way to connect the 240sx tranny to my motor, we would still need a custom driveshaft and I'd be worried if it could handle the power. Any suggestions?

2. Motor mounts. Certainly the motor mounts would not hook up perfectly so what's the best way of doing that?

3. Electrical? Oh man, I don't have a clue how to get started on that one. I'd like to think I could use my supra's computer to run everything, but his car may still need his computer for things. I really need some pro's ideas on this one.

4. Size? This motor is a lot bigger than the stock KA24E. I believe it should fit, but with great difficulty.

I really just need some good overall professional advise on this matter. Has this been done before? Where can I find more information? Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

First you should focus on getting the motor to bolt in. That'll require custom motor mounts.

I'd stick with the r-154, as it'll bolt right up to the 7M, and you won't need a custom bellhousing ($$). A custom driveshaft from jawsgear or shaftmasters will more than do the job. (they're both very well known, excellent manufacturers of driveshafts) They'll both take the power.

Test fitting and measuring is the only easy way to check for clearance of the motor.

As for the ECU deal, use the 7M wiring harness and ECU, and see if the sensors for the 240sx fit the 7M locations. Then look up in the wiring diagram for both cars to figure which sensor is for what, and splice accordingly. Smile

There have been a few people who put 1jzgte's in 240's. It's about the same size as a 7M.

A 1JZ or a 7M-GTE in a Nissan is complete Blasphemy! Its original though. I havent heard of anyone dropping in a 7M into a 240 before. Sheaff is the first to say a 1JZ has been dropped in. Well if you do the project I would love to see pictures and if it goes well you should give Super Street a call and get that car in the mag! It will get you noticed, thats for sure!

Nissan-Toyota-Nissan wouldn't be that big of a deal I wouldn't think since the two companies collaborate so much. Well not as big of a deal as what I was thinking of with my old MKIV, an Audi 4.2 (from an RS4, R8, or Spyker C8) with a transaxle like the new Alfa 8C or Corvette. That would have been a pain in the ass.

It can't be that terrible. People do the I6 RB 25/26 swap frequently.?

RBs are nissan motors of course, and the silvia platform cannot be to far removed from the skyline platform. The manifolds correspond. Which brings up a good point, they are opposite of Toyotas M and JZ motors. It would have to be overcome as well.

What about a Toyota Cressida? There's a 1987 Cressida for sale in my area for $1000. Would it be easy enough of a swap to be worth it?

A cressida would be a direct bolt up if I am not mistaken, considering they already use the 7M engine.

The only difference in the supra 7m and the cressida 7m are the oiling systems. For example a cressida's 7m would need a supra's oil system to fit in a supra.

Just the oil pan as I understand it. The oil systems would be the same for two ge blocks though it would differ between a gte and a ge block.

The 7M-GTE shouldn't have much of a fitment issue being that an RB25, which is much like the 7M and the 1JZ, fits without much of a hassle. Like you said, measurements are the key. As for the Cressida, I just went to a local drifting event in Englishtown, and there were TWO Cressidas (91 or 92) there with 1JZ swaps. I hear the wiring was the hardest part. But the 7M-GTE should be easier, since the 7M-GE already comes in that car stock! Like the NON-TURBO Supra.
