hey
I was wondering if anyone had problems with smoke on the start up? whenever i start it i puff of smoke comes out and gets bigger each time. i take it into a shop and they say that their going to have to pull the enginge just to find out what's wrong with it. they guessed that it was some worn piston rings cause of low compression readings. but then where's the smoke comin from. has anybody had these problems?

Just want to clearify something, did you say they did a compression test and the results were low? Does it just puff smoke at start up, and then stop, or does it smoke for awhile after startup.

You dont need to pull an engine to diagnose it unless the motor is seized or knocks really bad, find a new shop. Smoking on start up is the valve stems most of the time, good call. In fact, those can be changed without removing the head, let alone the whole thing.

THis problem is associated with Valve stems...However, if they did a compression check on the car and your numbers are low, then its a different story.

Yes they did do a compression test and it came back with numbers in the 90's for 2 or 3 cylinders.

Time for a Toyota Short Block. I would not recommend having it rebuilt. It's much more economical to spend the ~2,000 on the factory short block, and then you KNOW it was done right.

The actual TOYOTA Short-Block is the one that would be best suited for you. Thats the one that SupraStore.com is offering. Any Toyota Parts Dealer should be able to get it for you. Check with Curt Aigner on this forum for a good price.
