Has anyone else had problems removing the 112mph limit on the import automatic supra?? Ive tried 2, 4 wire de-limiting chips, but to no avail. I know that HKS do a seperate chip for the Supra Auto box with 16 wires, compared to a 4 wire one for the manual. Has anyone tried this SLD?? I cant stand bein stuck at 112mph in 3rd gear for much longer and need help. I dont want to be wasting money on these SLD's unless it WILL actually work. Cheers Guys

im thinkin the hks one will be the best.
from what i understand you just pull the trac fuse and it kills the limiter, but you have that trac light on all the time. |

Tried pulling Trac Fuse to no avail. Also recieved the HKS autobox delimiter and fitted it. Gear changes seem more willing and change quicker, but the top speed limit is still there. Well gutted. Cant think of much else to do. Im sure an aftermarket ECU should do it, but which one shall i go for??? Any ideas on which is best for the buck??

shese. you bought a delimiter and it didnt do it?. hmmmm wow... personally i would go with a AEM stand alone. with all the money you are going to spend on piggy back computers, tuning, and all the little stuff you will need. you will have payed for the aem, had it installed and tuned. hmmmmmm. the hks delimiter didnt do it. on your supra, im assuming the delimiter shoulda done it. from all iv heard, with american supras you pull the fuse and its gone, on the european/australia ones you need a delimiter. it might even be something in the trans.
got me stumped. |

Oh well. I guess its just not meant to be. I cant think of anythin else that could cause it. the delimiters just alter the scaling of the signal dont they so that the car thinks its going slower than it actually is. I must have a super intelligent supra, thats tryin to beat me at my own game. ;-) Cheers for ur help anyway. i'll get shoppin for an ecu i think.

You could always contact Toyota and ask them how. Just lie and say it will be for competion.
My best guess is a reprogrammed ECU. In Tressel we trust. |

For some specific info on Jspec (Eurospec) ones a useful site is www.mkiv.co.nz.
It sounds like you've pretty much done what is outlined below, so it may be that it simply hasnt been installed correctly. Im no expert but when i read this I thought of your post. It would be really useful if there was a J-spec tailored section of the i-supra website. There are heaps of us who really need specific info on our Supras too. Read on... Unlike the US/Canadian models, the Japanese Supra's 180kph speed limiter cannot be removed simply by pulling out the fuse that supplies power to the traction control ECU. If you don't want to go to the expense of buying a complete after-market ECU, you need to buy a Speed Limit Defencer (SLD) to do this. The SLD is about the size of a box of Camel cigarettes, and can be purchased from any of the Japanese parts suppliers (eg HKS, Greddy) for about $US100. The SLD works by intercepting and then modifying the signal that comes from the speed sensor on the gearbox, so that the main ECU always thinks that the car is doing less than 180kph, even if it is doing more than 180kph. Typically, it is situated near (or stuck to the back of) the main engine ECU. The unit needs +12V and ground. On the main ECU, the wire that carries the signal from the speed sensor is unplugged from the main ECU, and rerouted into the SLD. The output of the SLD is then wired back into the terminal on the ECU where the signal from the speed sensor was previously plugged into. TRL Performance (Peter Betts) in the UK also has a similar unit for sale for £70. It can convert your KPH speedo to MPH, get cruise working above 70MPH, remove the speed limiter at 180KPH, not effect your active spoiler operation and also can calibrate your speedo for changes in wheel sizes and differential changes by +/-10% in 1.5% steps. Visit TRL Performance or email Peter directly. |

definitely get the HKS SLD, mine is a JDM one and that was the only way. i believe greddy makes their own version as well but the HKS one worked fine for mine.

Ive already got the Hks Auto one fitted at the mo, and it hasn't de-limited it. May try the TRL one next and hope it works. Have heard about the Greddy SLD too and that it works well. If TRL one don't work, ill try the Greddy. Its costing me a fair bit tho. Will try sendin HKS one back.

ya you ought to send the HKS one back if it really is faulty.. have you made sure it was connected properly? maybe you wanna take it out then reconnect it and see if it works then? worth giving a shot rather than going through all the hassle to buy diff brands..
