My car battery has been dieing over and over again. I changed the battery but that didnt do it so i took it to a shop and they checked the alternator and the wiring and said everything was fine. They concluded that the alarm and stereo system are constantly running and draining the battery. Does anyone else have this problem. They said that i just have to start it everyday to recharge the battery. Now if it is draining the battery does anyone know if i can maybe hook up another batery so that the alarm and stereo can run on that one but my car run on the original but so the alternator recharges both.

did you check all your grounds? you can try to get a bigger alternator (PHR sells them) or like you said hook up the stereo/alarm to another power source. what if you dont set the alarm when you park at home?

When i dont set the alarm in my garage it does help and i have thought about getting about a bigger alternator. But the thing is that it will start right back up after it has been running so the battery is being recharged its just it keeps draining. Im going to check some of the wiring again and try getting another battery. Thanks for your halp.

Today i jump start it and it is idling really low and and it sounds like it is missfiring. I take it for a spin and at a stop sign it just cuts off. I start it back up barely and if i let off the gas it stalls but if i keep giving it a little bit of gas it sounds like it is misfiring. I'm going to change the plugs and see if that helps, but does anyone have another reason why it could be doing this. I really need help. Its like one thing happens right after another.

If your battery dies and you restart it, the ECU needs a while to relearn the fuel map. Let it idle for about 20 mins or so. If you want to test your alternator, start your car and let it idle. Then unhook the positive terminal of the battery. If the car still runs after 10 secs, your alternator is fine.
I have a decent size stereo in the car and yes it will drain it down to death. I don't even bother locking the alarm when I'm at home as it will literally drain it overnight. Then again, I drive it like every other week for like an hour or so anyways, so it just sits there and collects dust. - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ 2000 GS400 |

Yea I have figured out that the alarm is just draining my battery while it sits in my garage. I will try letting it idle for 20minutes and see if that fixes it. Thanks man.

I tried reseting the ECU and letting it idle for 30 minutes twice and it still is doing the same thing. Could one of the hoses be leaking or disonected and if so where do i look for that.

By hoses you mean vacuum hoses? I'd just change them all if I were you. I had some leaks around the vsv. I couldn't pinpoint exactly where it was so I just changed it all last Sunday. I went from 16psi to 19psi

coil packs and ignitor failure will cause misfire/stalling issues, thats what happened to me last summer. boost leaks can also cause stalling.

Do you know of any websites that can tell me how to replace the vacuum hoses and where i can get them.

Since i reset the ECU and let it idle for 30 minutes the car has been idling higher and higher everytime I start it. Could any of the problems you guys listed be causing this.

possibly the idle control valve? ICV wont drain your battery though, just cause stalling and poor idle. have you changed the plugs yet?

No that was my first thought because sometimes it like sputters or misfires, but i have never really heard a misfire so im not sure. Could the plugs cause my car to all the sudden stall while moving just with no throttle. The battery is really not my concern anymore since this new problem although they could be linked. Someone on another forum told me that the alternator could have a bad bearing or the belt could be slipping and that is causing the squeling at idling speeds. I guess im going to have to change the plugs first and then go from there. Thanks.
