Ever since I put my boost controller in I have had this problem- When Accelerating my boost will continue to climb and once it hits the peak boost it drops back down till it settles in the 14.5 psi range. I have tried numerous different settings on my EBC (Profec B Spec II) and nothing seems to help hold it. I am BPU+FMIC. Any help would be much appreciated.

Damn. I have the exact same problem Boost rises, then drops to 14-14.5 just like you describe. I have a Profec-B Spec 1. Additionally I cannot get my boost over 16psi. When I unplug the wastegate, and use the throttle to reg boost, I can boost as high as ya like. I think it is my Profec or the Wastegate. I wonder if anyone use the wastegate spring mod along with an EBC?

Goldfinger,

If you have your piping connectd the way it is called out in the manual (Type 2) and dip switches set as shown in the first example for the actuator type waste gate(internal), you should boost to 14-15psi on the max "low setting" and high as 20-21 psi on the max "high setting" for heat of the summer condition, then drop to 18psi at red line; the twins will run out of breath as you approach red line... Boost will be higer during the cooler monhts...

Staubs,

I don't anything about the spec II.

Yup. I have it set up exactly as you describe, and my car behaves exactly like you describe in your first post. Except mine runs up to arouns 15-16, then settles back down to 14-14.5 psi, even with the high boost set to the max. I am thinking wastegate spring. I am going to try the external wastegate spring trick this weekend and see if this doesnt solve the problem.

Thanks for the input! I really appreciate it.

WooHoo!!

Problem solved. Turns out it was the waste gate spring. I went to Schucks and bought a kit of universal throttle return springs. The kind with straight ends, not hook ends. You cut and bend your own ends for your application. I used the stiffest one out of the package, bent small loops at both ends, then hooked one end around the flat lever/arm of the waste gate (next to the pivot point of the actuator). Then I stretched the spring and hooked the other end to the unused, threaded hole on the extra boss on the waterpunp. Now, With my ProfecB all the way up I can boost to 20 psi. I set high to a solid 18psi (at about the 3 o'clock position) When I turn the ProfecB off, I boost to 11-12 psi and it holds to redline. I can highly recommend this little mod to anyone who is having the boost drop problem. If you want pics, let me know.

Here is pic/diagram I put together. The spring I used I got a Schucks Auto Supply. They sell a package of universal throttle return springs. They are short and medium lenght springs, with long straight ends and are designed to be bent to custom lengths. I used the stiffest in the package. See the diagram for a pic of what it should look like.

How did you get your hand back there is my real question? I pulled the vsv bracket off, but I just can't fit back there and had serious trouble getting the spring on!

The spring is long enough that I just fished it back there and grabbed on to the wastegate arm. I didn't have to remove anything. Tpok be 3 or 4 trys "fishing" until I got it. You can sort of see what your doing with a flashlight if you look down through the intake manifold pipes.
