hey i just got my supra yesterday. Its a 93.5 supra TT automatic. when ever i start the car and leave it in park it makes this grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr sound at idle. its running around 600 to 700 rpm at idle i was just wondering if anyone knew what this is. it sounds like as its coming from behind the motor but i dont know.
Thanks for the help. 93.5 supraTT |

Your idling low. My 98 TT auto usually starts off at over 1,000 rpm when I first start it up. Once warm and in park I idle around 1,000 to 1,100. Hope this helps. Might wanna take a look at your plugs and your air filter.

yeah i thought it might be idling low too. then i checked the alldata computer at my mechanic school and it said the idle should be 650 +-50 so my idles good. did a compression test on it friday good all along all 6 cilinders. i found that a spark plug was not gaped properly, regaped it. still makes rough idel sound like its missing on a cilinder. but i cant figure out the prob reset ecu. i think i might check the plugs again one more time and put some new ones in. What do u guys recommend for stock engine not bpu or anything and what gapping?
Thanks 93.5 supraTT |

Check your plug wires. If the turbo ran a cap and rotor just as the NA did then I would strongly suggest putting a in a new Cap, Rotor as well as a nice set of race plugs and plug wires. If this doesnt help a new distributor may be in order.

quote: Supra TT's don't have distributors. or spark plug wires. We do have coil pack wires, what is the condition of them? if they are dry and cracked you will need to replace them. WE had a misfire with the car for 7months and couldn't figure it out, 10 expert mechanics couldn't figure it out, 6 were Supra savvy. one night we did an overnighter and rewired all the coilpack wires. the car ran great after. if that isn't it it could be weak ignition- bad ignition amplifier or coil packs, and if not that it could be a bad ground somewhere. check all of those things and you should find the problem. The easiest- wires. I haven't seen too many bad plugs. You will need NGK 3330 spark plugs. gapped at .032 they should come that way. |

ok. Go find yourself a good octane booster with an injector cleaner in it. Some of the 108 octane boosters are good. Add 2 bottles before ya fill up. If this doesnt help I'm out of ideas.

Couple more things to try. Check your aircleaner. Make sure its not all gunked up. Also, check your coil... it's a stretch tho.

I had something similar to this as well. The PCV valve I replaced actually broke into 2 pieces. Check the PCV valve...may need to replace it. I'd go with a stock valve.
