I just bought an 89 supra 5 SPD 2 days ago. I bought the car running perfectly. The next morning after I got the car my brother decided to get up early to try to test drive the car without telling me. When he came back the tranny was all messed up. I asked him what did he do and he said he was doing a burnout and tried to shift the 2nd and that is when it messed up. The problem is that when I got the car It was low on clutch fluid so I was going to add some the next day This morning I see some leaking around the slave cylinder. The problem is that it is extremly difficult to shift into 1st when the engine is running. it will not go into 2nd and if it does it is only making a grinding noise. to go to third gear I have to force it in. It goes into 4th smoothly and 5th gear is really hard to get. I can only get it if I really push hard on the shifter. the problem above is when the car is moving. If the engine is off I can shift into all 5 gears easily and sometimes I need to move the car forward a bit to get it into reverse. If I put the car in reverse and I hold down the clutch and let go of brake the car wont move even if on a hill. If I do that in other gears it rolls freely. Also 2nd gear only work if I pull back on the shifter but if I let it go it will grind. Today it got worst all the clutch kept on doing was slipping. the clutch only engages at the last inch of when I depress the pedal. When im taking corners I can actually hear the clutch sliping. And now I can only change gears only at a complete stop. I had to to leave the car i 4th gear the whole way. Damb supras are powerfull. I would never be able to take off in forth gear in my Integra. In the manual it says I have a W58 tranny. Any ideas what is wrong with my car?
Thank you

Sorry for writing so much.

So do you think the clutch is the problem? I will try what you said. I will try to bleed the slave cylinder to see if that helps thanks.

From all the shifting problms you described.....I'd get a new (well, new to you!) tranny. You can find the W58's for a couple hundred. Other wise Id check the shift fork, your tranny fluid level, like the previous poster said, chase the hard line for your slave cylinder to the master, and check it over real good, looking for bends/kinks in the lines. If your problem persisits with the difficlut shifting, get another tranny and get that one rebuilt as a spare. .....Just my .02
