I currently have decided upon going with Sound Performance's automatic transmission upgrade. But I was wondering if I should go with a chevy 700 or 700R? Power House Racing I believe sells a adapter for this conversion.

The reason I am thinking about this is because of the weak sprags in the supra they can only handle around 500hp before they will fail.

The disadvantage to the Chevy 700 trans is that its only a 3 speed and will limit top end to around 140mph. But it will do it really quick and is virtually bullet proof.

The other choice is the 700R it has O/D which will allow me to regain my speed loss but it cost a little more.

What are some of your thoughts?

The 700r4 is NO stronger than the Toyota tranny. A 4L80E is the overdrive version of the TH400 built it is too large to fit in the supra, we have tried. FOr a bulletproof tranny the SP400 is the only way to go. The complete kit is $5800 for tranny, adapter, torque converter, drive shaft, drive shaft adapter, rear tranny mount, shifter, and electronics to make the speedo work.

Thanks Larry I pretty much had made up my mind on your trans anyway. The converter you are talking about is that my converter or a new converter? Also can you give me details on the other parts and why I will need them (drive shaft, mount, shifter, ect.)
