My father is a car nut, and I've enjoyed a number of vehicles with manual transmissions. I recently bought a 96 N/A Supra and one difference is standing out regarding the clutch. Every manual tranny car I've driven had the clutch engage roughly halfway through the full throw. The Supra, however, does not do this. The clutch on this car must be pressed almost entirely into the floor pan before it disengages, and if you start to let pressure off, it engages abnormally fast.
I'm well aware that I've not driven every car in the world, but I've driven at least a dozen manual cars enough to get used to them, from a farm's Suzuki Samurai to a friend's Porsche 944 to my father's C5 Corvette, and my own 87 Supra that this MkIV replaces... NONE of those cars clutch like this- their clutches engage, as I stated, about halfway through the throw. My question is this: Is this something that is normal on a MkIV, or did the previous owner tweak the linkage? I'd prefer to have the clutch the way it was from the factory, so if it's been messed with, I'd like to restore it- but if they're that way, I'll get used to it. Wink Thanks for your help. |
