Has anyone out there had any experience with RPS' new carbon series clutches (twin disc and single disc)? They're being billed as nearly indestructable, cheaply rebuildable, and able to hold tons of power (600 for the single disc, 1000 for the twin disc), slippable (plus supposedly grips better as it heats up which seems consistent with CF). It sounds like the end-all clutch. But, has anyone out there used one and found these claims to be accurate?

Thanks,
Wes

Neither do I, but I am trying to get my 5-year plan together. Big Grin Hopefully the Supra will be coming in the next few months. All I have to do is find a nice black virgin (unmodified) 6-speed with between 30k and 65k miles that is under $30k.

Anyway, if I have to do a clutch it would be nice only to have to do it once. I'd also like to know how cheap "cheaply rebuildable is" like MVP claims. The clutch is over $2K already... if it costs $500 in parts to overhaul it, I don't think I'd call that "cheaply rebuildable."

Very good daily driver clutch for very high HP cars or for any that want a $2500 clutch! Rebuilding costs depend upon if you toast the flywheel or not. Disk replacements and machining of the flywheel are $350 or less.

Thanks Mark,
Actually just talked with a guy up here that has a wierd metallic green '95 with a TRD Wide body kit. He has the clutch and so far likes it. Guess he's been abusing the hell out of it too and so far it's been holding up.

heh... you talking about John Antes? He's a nice dude...

FWIW, I have the same clutch in my car. The clutch is currently back at RPS getting an update. If you want a clutch that can hold power with nice and smooth engagement(stock like) then the twin disc carbon is for you. If you aren't going to try and make big power, just go with the stage 3 for 1/3rd the price.

I don't know if that's who it was or not... didn't get a chance to get his name, the cops chased us out of the parking lot we were in before I asked that. Heh, I was too busy asking him about his car. Big Grin Yeah, nice guy... but man, I just can't see painting a Supra that shade of metallic green. The minute I saw the TRD Widebody I was like... no way.

I drove a Supra with a stage 3 RPS in it... it wasn't very streetable at all. Didn't want to slip.

LOL, A Tilton, thats a Mans clutch with a big fat wallet. Damn Clutch cost more than my 2jz-gte and 6 speed tranny front clip. But I would buy it if I got the laft over cash. Hehe

Im going to need a new unit soon so I want to do some research before I buy. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Mark,
Any idea if the Single Carbon Disc version is upgradable to the Twin Disc?

I can't see spending 2x as much on the Tilton if the RPS is going to do the same job. After-all I'm not going to be trying to challange Titan's car any time soon. Wink

Uh... yeah, $4,500 for a clutch to be used on a street car. I don't think so. I'm having a hard time with the $2,700 for the RPS.
