Hi Guys,

Brace yourself, the day has finally come. I have decided to get rid of my 87 supra targa turbo automatic. it has been to more supra meets than any supra in the world, and you guys helped make that possible by being part of the best supra club in the world!

i bought this supra in the summer of 88. it had 60,000kms on the clock, and was a vary dark blue. i had looked at mk2's before, and the merkur turbo, but decided on a fiero 6-cyl in 86. yeah, biggest mistake of my life, which led me to looking for another car by 88(less than a year and a hlaf in). i past this car on the way to taking my grandfather to the hospital for routine tests, and while he was in there, i went back test drove the supra, and made a deal, within an hours time. jokingly, on the way home, i pointed out the car, and said how nice it looked, and that i might go buy it. from 88 to 96, my brother and i learned about supras the hard way, first paying toyota for shoddy hg repairs, then performance shops, all to no avail. it was not until the internet came along, and i replaced the dp getting rid of the clogged cat that my problems simply vanished! those next supra years were truely blissfulll, with nary a problem.

ok, enough mushy stuff.

other than the hg problems, and a few alternators and batterys and brakes, the only other thing that cost me money on that supra was a broken neutral saftey switch that cost me 500 dollars at toyota to replace. that is pretty unbelievable in itself. these cars are amazing!

the heater does not blow, there is no radio, the brakes are reall squishy and soft, and pedal goes to the floor because of a busted brake line under the drivers side, rotors are warped or rusted, tires and rims are pretty much shot, rust is taking over the body completely, power window switches are iffy at best, seats are torn and wrecked, block has over 400,000kms on it, and has blown a few puffs of blue smoke on startup probably due to valve seals, plus i'm sure lots of other problems, and many original toyota parts from 1987 just hanging on for dear life.

on the good side, it always starts right up when i ask it to. the turbo always held whatever boost i set, always pulled nice to 10psi, where it has been shimmed for the past 5 years, has a hks stopper type mhg which has held perfectly for the same 5 years, brand new head 5 years ago, been run on synthetic oil most of its life, and always had it changed regularly. the interior except the seats in a very nice dark blue. it has tems as well as H4 conversion headlights. even yesterday, i popped in an old battery, hooked up the boost cables, and she was running on the first try. i drove it over to my moms house where i plan to start ripping her apart.

i know there are lots of parts cars around, but i didn't want to start taking her apart without at least first mentioning it to you guys. Dean was going to put this motor in one of his mk2's, but has for now changed his mind. So, i am either going to sell it to one of you guys for 500 cdn dollars so you can part it out like a mo-fo, use the motor for a conversion or replacement, or i am going to take off what parts i can before winter, then send her to scrap land.

i really don't push my cars too fast that i need a spare motor lieing around, nor do i have the space, no do i want to re-and-re motors on weekends. i haven't needed a spare motor(knock on head) for the 87 for 15 years, and not for the 91 for the first 3 years.

lemme hear your thoughts, good or bad..... Smile
I am going to start taking off small parts startin monday night that i think i or others will or might need in future years

it will be a shame if i have to take off the head and ruin a beautiful relationship which has worked so well for the last 5 years, and over 100,000kms, but i honestly do not know how long this engine will run for. at 10psi, and well maintained, it could run another 200,000 km for me, but in the hands of a young eager beaver who wanted to go really fast, it might not even last a weekend. the last time i checked the compression, it was 145-150 accross the board, right on spec.

if no one wants her, i will probably go as far as taking the head, turbo, and intake off, and send the block along with whats left to the scrap yeard. You can then visit her at mike wrecking yeard on hiway 20 in hamilton.
